Comcast has unveiled what it calls a Talking Guide for its Cable TV subscribers who are visually impaired. It will help viewers to navigate what’s on live TV and on-demand. The Talking Guide is an extension to the Comcast’s X1 which is the latest, state of the art SET top box and software package which connects to the internet. Comcast is spreading its X1 network in its local markets across the country.
The latest feature was announced on Wednesday at an event in San Francisco and will be coming to homes which have X1 within a few weeks.
The feature includes a pleasing female voice over which helps the users to navigate through the X1 guide, settings, and program descriptions via vocal prompts.
If the user selects a film through video on demand, the talking guide will tell the user, the film’s title, its run time and even its review score via Rotten Tomatoes.
