Missouri Governor has asked the National Guard to be on a standby as a precautionary measure to tackle any violence after a Grand Jury decides whether to indict a white police officer for shooting dead a black teenager in Ferguson.
Police forces from other regions of the state have also been requisitioned in addition to the National Guards to tackle any untoward incident and to restore order. The decision on the shooting is expected to happen in mid to late November.
Violence had erupted in August after the shooting of an unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, 18 by Darren Wilson. The shooting had sparked a national debate on relations between different communities and led to weeks of protests. Groups have threatened to hold extensive protests if the officer is not charged for his crime.
Nixon said, “That ugliness was not representative of Missouri and it cannot be repeated.”
