HTC has unveiled its flagship product, the HTC One M9 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday. The M9 is quite similar to the previous HTC One M8 in theme and design style, but it does have one big improvement in the camera department.
The HTC One M9 is a brand-new smartphone from HTC that has a sleek metal unibody which comes in four color schemes: gunmetal grey, silver/rose gold, amber gold and gold/pink. In terms of design, the HTC One M9 is almost identical to its predecessor, the HTC One M8.
HTC didn’t want to come up with a completely new HTC One, it wanted to simply keep the good things and improve the not-so-good things. As a result, the design, the speakers and the display are the same as the M8. Yes, the HTC One M9 has the same 5-inch full HD display with a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 441 pixel per inch. The HTC One M9 does have Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection, which the M8 did not have.
The HTC One M9 is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 819 processor with Adreno 430 GPU. It has 3 GB of RAM and the internal storage of 32 GB, which can be upgraded to 128 GB with the help of a microSD card.
The area where the HTC One M9 brings the most improvements is the camera. The new rear camera is a powerful autofocus 20 MP camera with sapphire cover lens. It has 5,376 x 3752 pixels and a dual-LED flash. It has automatic simultaneous video and image recording, HDR, panorama, face/smile detection and geo-tagging.
The front-facing camera is a 4MP Ultrapixel camera with BSI sensor, 1080p, capable of HDR and recording 30 frames per second.
HTC’s newest flagship weighs 5.54 oz (157 grams) and measures 5.69 x 2.74 x 0.38 in (144.6 x 69.7 x 9.6 mm).
The HTC One M9 has a non-removable Li-Po 2849 mAh battery, which means that the smartphone will have a better battery life than its predecessor.
The new HTC One M9 comes preloaded with Android’s latest version, 5.0 Lollipop. Pricing for this smartphone and availability are unclear for now, but details about them will surface in the following days.
