Muslim clerics around the world have reacted with horror, the burning alive of a Jordanian pilot by ISIS militants. The clerics have stated that such form of killing are contrary to the principles of Islam and such form of killing is considered despicable by Islam, no matter the context. ISIS had released a video showing the captured pilot Mouath al-Kasaesbeh being burnt alive in a cage. Jordan on its part has executed two al-Qaida convicts on death row.
The 1,000 year old Al-Azhar University, which is highly revered by Sunni Muslims around the world and is Egypt’s top Muslim authority, has released a statement expressing “deep anger over the lowly terrorist act” by what it called a “Satanic, terrorist” group.
Al-Azhar’s Grand Sheik, Ahmed al-Tayeb said the killers themselves deserved to be “killed, crucified or to have their limbs amputated.”
The aftermath of the burning alive of the captured Jordanian pilot has evicted a quick response from Jordan who immediately executed two convicts, which included a female jihadist. The woman, failed suicide bomber Sajida al-Rishawi, and al-Qaeda operative Ziyad Karboli – both Iraqi nationals – were hanged at dawn, officials said.
The execution comes hours after ISIS had posted a video which appeared to show pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh being burned alive. Moaz al-Kasasbeh was captured alive after crashing his F-16 during an anti-IS mission over Syria in December. Jordan was trying to secure the release of Lt Kasasbeh’s in a swap involving Rishawi.
Sajida al-Rishawi was on death row after she was convicted for her role in a series of attacks in the Jordanian capital Amman which claimed the lives of 60 People. Al-Qaeda operative Ziyad Karboli was convicted in 2008 for killing a Jordanian national.
The two prisoners were executed in the early hours (04:00 A.M.) according to government spokesman Mohammad al-Momani
