People with plastic surgery might end up being more liked in society thanks to their facial features, new study shows.
The purpose of plastic surgery is to improve the appearance of people, whether changing a facial flaw or trying to fight ageing signs. It seems that apart from reinventing the way a person looks like, it also changes the way the people perceive us in society.
Cosmetic surgery can make women look more likeable, socially skilled and more feminine, a new study suggests.
Women who participated in the experiment, and who went trough a procedure called facial rejuvenation, which means that they had things done to their face, eye areas, chin implants, surgical lifts of the neck or brows, were classified in a much more positive manner by strangers.
For example, earlier studies have shown that people with wide eyes give the impression that they can be trusted and upturned lips give the impression that those persons are friendly and extroverted. The good news about this, is that plastic surgeons can give people all of those features
Researches done by doctors in the past, tried to determine the level of youth and attractiveness a person has after undergoing plastic surgery.
A research stated that plastic surgery can make a person look young with up to nine years but another research from 2013, stated that plastic surgery can indeed erase a few years of a person’s face, but this doesn’t mean that the person becomes more attractive.
The team of researchers gathered an amount of 30 pictures portraying white women with their faces before and after the plastic procedure.
Then they showed the images to 173 strangers out f which 63 men ad 110 women, were asked to give them grades, according to their levels of femininity, attractiveness, aggression,
None of the persons asked had seen any o the women, before and after the surgery. Also the pictures had been mixed in different groups so they couldn’t make comparisons.
At the end, researchers found out that the women in the post surgery pictures received higher grades when it came to attractiveness, likability, femininity and social skills.
Doctors are not quite sure which parts of the surgical beauty interventions helped the women to receive the positive feedback but the statistics are very important for the scientists who study how people percept facial features.
Undergoing plastic surgery can be risky, as chances are you come out looking less liked by people around giving them a different perception about yourself, thing that may affect you daily life.
The purpose of this research has been to help doctors understand if their work was helpful for their patients.
