Religion and politics is a heady mixture and it is an understatement that the present Pope Francis is one of the most popular. Still there are sure to be persons who may be crowding at the other end of the spectrum of opinion. Predictions are being made about clash with conservatives and it will take the center stage at an important meeting in Paris-The topic of this debate will be Man’s responsibility for climate change.
The Pope commands an audience of over 1.2 billion Catholics all over the world. He will be touching on the issue of Global Warming and climate change. The Pope is also expected to deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly. It will be a summit to remember where representatives of the major religions will gather and the details of the summit of the meeting will be reported by the Guardian. The Fourth Estate is already agog with news pertaining to the Pope’s visit to the UN meeting where the world leaders will try to thrash out a formula to control global warming.
It will be January 15th and not March as previously reported by many news papers when the Pope will be visiting the Philippines. He will visit the victims of the Typhoon Haiyan which had wreaked havoc in the year 2012.The Pope will utilize the occasion to issue a formal statement about climate change. This message will be relayed to the 400,000 priest to be read in the platforms of the Catholic churches via 5,000 Catholic bishops all over the world.
The Pope is also expected to meet the world leaders of other religious disposition and top on the agenda will be poverty related issues and environmental solutions. We have a Pope who is very vocal about destruction of the environment. He is an advocate of the new economic order which has time and resources to address inequality in human conditions and scorns at economies centered on corporate greed and centered on god of money. The Pope has clearly identified these entities when he said, the system “Needs to plunder nature to sustain the frenetic rhythm of consumption that is inherent to it”
