Based on authorities’ reports three workers were injured in New York City high school explosion which took place on Thursday evening in the Bronx neighborhood. The first investigations have revealed that the explosions might have been caused by a worker who improperly shut down one of the gas lines in the building.
It was 8:30 p.m. when the entire Bronx area of the New York City has been shaken by a powerful explosion taking place in a nearby high school building. Workers were working to prepare the school for the upcoming classes, but things got wrong when one of the workers forgot to shut down a gas line.
The explosion destroyed three of the classrooms and the façade of the edifice, but investigators have confirmed that the structure of the building has not been at all affected. Unfortunately, three workers have been severely injured during the blast and were, therefore taken to the nearest medical hospital where they received medical treatment for their face and hands burns.
Investigators are looking deeper into the situation to determine whether other factors might have contributed to the explosion. They could not yet determine whether the building will be ready for the school start which is due to take place in the following weeks.
Mayor Bill de Blasio was among the first persons to visit the scene of the explosion. He has declared that the explosion has been shocking for all the inhabitants of New York, not just for the people living within the same area of the high school. He has urged authorities to provide explanatory details as soon as possible, so people would understand what actually happened.
The mayor has further stated that the building usually hosts eight schools and 4,000 students, which is why the explosion has negative consequences on the entire community. For this matter, efforts are now being carried out so students could start school at the same time with the rest of the pupils.
