After trying for almost forty years to get pregnant, a 59-year-old woman from New York has just become the mother of a healthy boy. The woman received fertility treatments and was able to hold a full-term pregnancy. On June 15th, the baby, measuring 7lb 4oz, was born at the Bellevue Woman’s Center in Niskayuna.

Akosua Budu Amoako has been married to her husband for 38 years, and they have tried to have a baby for all this time. However, she discovered one of her fallopian tubes was blocked, which made it almost impossible for her to get pregnant in a natural way.
Last year, they found out that a woman from Ghana, their homeland, underwent several fertility treatments and managed to get pregnant, even if she was 60. Therefore, they decided to try this method as well, even though they were over 50.
By using sperm from her husband and a donor egg, the woman was fertilized in vitro. This process was successful, and she gave birth to a healthy baby boy called Isaiah Somuah Anim, just like his father. The couple is incredibly happy to finally have a baby, and cannot wait to offer him all the love and support.
Nowadays, it’s no longer so unusual to have a baby after the age of 50. CDC reported of 754 births among people older than 50. This has become more common, since women choose to focus on their career, and start thinking about motherhood only later. Although there are some risks involved in giving birth after a certain age, many women choose to do so, and manage to have healthy babies.
