Amazon has already streamlined its deliveries to the maximum. The result consists of unparalleled delivery periods and lots of good customer reviews. Yet clients are not happy enough. That’s because they have to live with the concern of porch pirates every time they order new products. Even though this issue is outside its reach, the company plans to change that.
Porch Pirates Are Causing Too Much Trouble to Be Ignored
Reports indicate that around 23 million Americans have fallen victims at least once to thieves that steal packages left on their doorstep. These concerning numbers even determined the police to take action. Therefore, they started planting fake delivery packages in front of households to lure in such offenders. These boxes contain new products with active GPS.
However, Amazon wants to join these efforts against such petty thief. The core plan of the online retailer is to find ways to deliver packages inside customers’ homes and car trunks.
Amazon Drivers Might Soon Benefit Smart Doorbells and License Plates for Safe Deliveries
Therefore, Amazon is negotiating with startup Pharme for a possible collaboration. This company creates smart license plates. Their function is to allow delivery persons to place the orders in the trunk of the car.
The strategy consists of a secure box incorporated into the license plate. This is where car owners can safely deposit their car keys. Other persons can take hold of the key but only with the remote consent of the owners.
However, Amazon wants to erase risks of porch pirates with indoor deliveries as well. One of the solutions is a smart doorbell. These security devices can grant delivery drivers one-time access inside houses. Afterward, they can drop off the products and leave the private property.
This is Amazon’s way of raising confidence in online shopping. As the company functions mainly as a digital platform, porch pirates are a severe threat to the organization.
On top of that, assets that are standing on the doorstep for hours risk deterioration due to bad weather conditions. While Amazon offers compensation for anything wrong that happens to unattended goods, such a negative experience can damage the brand and client loyalty.
