Apple released the annual diversity report yesterday, which revealed that this huge tech giant managed to achieve pay equity in the United States. This means that all the employees of this company are getting equal pay and work. Having in mind the history of the USA, we can say that this change can be considered an improvement.

According to the information provided by the company, it seems like every female employee and those representing minority communities are paid the same salary as the white male employees who have the same job or similar ones. This happened as Apple managers paid more attention into analyzing the salaries and annual stock grants. This way, two persons who are doing similar jobs are now paid the same. Apple tried to achieve this goal for some time and they finally did it. Earlier this year, other huge companies, such as Facebook and Microsoft, announced that they have no more gender pay gap. These changes, done by some important companies, can be seen as an example for smaller businesses. There should be no difference between male and female or white and non-white people.

The percentage of female increased from 31 percent to 37 this year, while the minorities percent increased by 6 percent in 2016. Apple’s minorities include black, Hispanic and Native American employees. Even though Apple did not hire so many people this year, they are making substantial progress in other fields, such as equal pay and work for everyone.
In this huge tech company, white males are representing 67 percent of its workforce. Some people could expect that they are better paid but that is not true anymore. Furthermore, the company promised to improve the numbers and pay attention to the diversity. They will hire more women and people no matter where they are from.
Equal pay and work is a new concept that Apple seems to embrace very well. It means equality no matter the gender or the colour of one’s skins. It implies a commitment to its employees. That is why this change is really important, especially in the United States of America, where there are people from so many communities.
