Recent announcements indicate Apple News is currently blocked in China. This unexpected disruption of the Apple News app cannot yet be explained, but Apple developers suspected the online program has been interrupted by China’s censorship.
- Apple’s opinion on the matter
- Further changes that Apple will implement on its Apple News app
Apple News app users from China must have been seriously surprised to see that they were no longer able to access the content of online platform this weekend. Apple has later on informed that their News app will no longer be available in China.
The issue was first observed by iPhone and iPad users, who declared that they could not access Apple’s News app from China. No similar problems are encountered when users log in using the American, as well as the trial British and Australian platforms. The only possible explanation was that Apple News is currently blocked in China.
According to users, the app automatically prompts a message saying the news service is not available in the Chinese region. Apple has not provided an official explanation yet, but tech developers think the decision to block Apple News in China has been adopted to prevent self-censorship rules imposed by the Chinese government.
Apple has yet to tell people how the Apple news content will be censored. Experts think the company may either hire special people to select the correct news or develop a special code to automatically prohibit articles containing unpermitted words. These rumors have yet to be confirmed by the iPhone maker.
It goes without saying that the rumor triggered powerful feelings of discontent among Internet users. Commentators are generally displeased with the fact that the news content is strictly geographically prohibited. For this reason some of the News articles that have been acquired on the U.S. territory have become immediately unavailable when users switched to the Chinese networks.
Although the decision to block Apple News in China is affecting the company, the iPhone maker will most certainly continue to implement the same strategy. China is the second most important market for the United States; hence, the gravity of Apple’s decision to block the News service in China.
