If anyone is feeling nostalgic about low-quality home movies, they will be able to go back to the 90’s with the VHS Camcorder app, which turns your high-tech videos into their grainy and badly colored ancestors. And thus, it seems the world has turned on its axis.
The younger generations may have not experienced the struggles of videotapes with their fragile plastic, the bulky videocameras with horrible quality and static audio. It took patience and precision to capture the important moments of our lives on video to enjoy years later. And by then, the quality would gradually have become worse.
However, the VHS Camcorder app will allow any iPhone user to get a better grasp on the capabilities of VHS tapes and cameras back in the 1980’s and 1990’s. They will have the ability to access its limited features and disappointing results in all their glory, without the drawbacks of thick tapes that required patience for rewinding.
It could be a tool used due to nostalgia or simply for pure entertainment value, but it would certainly be an excellent tool for those who barely remember the low-quality of technology to get a taste of what it was like. The app in itself delivers that possibility quite flawlessly, only it can all be done on your smart phone.
The app’s developer, Rarevision, has taken it past the era-authentic video quality and stepped skillfully into reminding everyone of the poor audio as well, featuring static and the fact that it took a measuring tape to achieve the perfect distance where it would actually be comprehensible.
And none of it would be as genuine if not for the date and time stamp on the bottom left corner, in pure, un-customizable white and raw font. How we have missed it.
The VHS Camcorder also features the catch of many home made videos, the decreasing quality as the camera moves, and users can inflict further damage by flicking their finger across the screen to give it an even more pixilated look. It can also record in black and white, if you’re looking to go further back in its aspect.
The app is now available on the Apple app store, at the price of $4, which will have admittedly not gotten you a camera back then. It’s not yet available for Android users, but the company has stated that a version will be coming soon.
The app could feature numerous entertaining uses, starting from the fact that it allows you to actually modify the date and time stamp, and set it as far back as the 80’s. We can now sit back, relax and prepare ourselves for YouTube and social media videos about sightings of technology in the “past” and “previously uncovered” UFO encounters.
