BlizzCon is upon us, and it leaked that Blizzard’s ‘Overwatch’ is coming on all platforms, so it will be enjoyed by everyone, no matter your preferred type of gaming.
- ‘Overwatch’ is a FPS game with MOBA-like characteristics
- It’s been suggested that it will launch on June 21st, 2016, or perhaps even earlier
- The game will be available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4
- More information is expected at BlizzCon, which will take place this weekend
Whether it’s an accidental release, or just another way to keep up the hype, the new banner indicates that the first person shooter (FPS) meets MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) will be available for all gamers. In fact, the official battle.net picture leaked boasts ‘Overwatch’s availability for the PC, as expected, but for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.
The highly anticipated game is still a long way away though. The pre-order website is up, but it’s not even live yet, so that might take a little while longer. According to the leak, ‘Overwatch: Origins Edition’ will release on June 21st, 2016, or “before”. That means we’re still months away from its official launch.
However, pre-orders might become available at some point between December and spring. And when it will, it might release for $60 for each platform. This further confuses speculations that it would be a free-to-play game. It’s been proven the most successful approach by numerous other MOBA’s, such as ‘Dota 2’ or ‘League of Legends’.
First person shooters, in general, seem to thrive more when gamers are not required to pay as well. Perhaps Blizzard will make it available for purchase as an option. The paid-for pack will arrive with additional content, while others could opt for the free version. Or, it would require gamers to purchase the game, and then get all the additional content for free. It’s difficult to pinpoint their chosen approach for now.
The consensus does seem to be that ‘Overwatch’ will be free after buying the actual game. The popular gamemaker has proven itself to do just fine with that particular method.
The leak also offers a glimpse into the potential content of the ‘Overwatch: Origins Edition’. It will offer 21 heroes, and 5 skins, along with additional treats for other Blizzard products. For example, it boasts Tracer Hero for ‘Heroes of the Storm’, Baby Winston Pet for ‘World of Warcraft’, ‘Starcraft II’ Portraits, ‘Hearthstone’ Cardback, and ‘Diablo II’ Mercy Wings. All of which will be included in the pack.
However, these are just bonuses that Blizzard is putting up for grabs. ‘Overwatch’ is expected to build enough hype all on its own. This is because it’s essentially the first genuinely new creation to come out of Blizzard within the last 17 years. The rest were sequels or spin-offs from various other successful franchises.
More information is expected to be revealed at BlizzCon this weekend.
