Even though it’s well known for its classic name and classic design, Casio is set to join the stage for smartwatches along with other powerhouses in the field such as Apple or Samsung. Technology is advancing quickly and what was once top luxury can now fall into the shadow of gadgets and app filled, multifunctional devices or accessories.
Casio means to keep up, according to CEO Kazuhiro Kashio. The company recently revealed that they plan on bringing their own version of a smartwatch in March 2016. They set their standards high, aspiring to perfection and flawlessly blending comfort with simple, according to their statements. If their history holds any clues, those words are to be taken seriously.
The price tag is estimated to read approximately $400, not too dissimilar to Apple’s product and the all around cost of a high-end smartwatch currently on the market. The Japanese manufacturers have held a famous name in their domain and it’s expected that they would reclaim their title once they catch up with the current trends. Or exceed them.
The company understandably states that they want to create a device that will remain a watch at its core with functions to deem it smart, not a device that, among many other function, will also function as a watch. Their priority definitely places them on the right path, while most of the other companies focus on the additions and not on the basic purpose of a watch, telling time.
The Casio smartwatch will be targeted toward men and outdoor activities, promising that it will not have the fragility of smart devices we have gotten used to and that instead it will be difficult to break, simple and comfortable. The practicality sounds good in theory, but the general population is waiting to see how much truth there is to their claims.
The years haven’t seen much success for the Japanese company, with their designs and releases gaining questionable reviews and receiving mixed opinions. Perhaps it is time for them to regain the popularity they once had through the quality their fame promises. They have fallen behind with the advancement of technology, but nothing is stopping them from catching up.
The classic Casio gold will always remain a timeless accessory and people have gotten used to this from the company. It’s only a matter of time, a year, more specifically, if their statements are accurate, to see if they can reel people back in with what once made them great. ‘Vintage’ is a good title to hold, but nothing beats fresh success.
