Top names in the music and movie industries gathered on Tuesday in front of cameras to promote and raise awareness about Hurricane Telethon. They helped the US television officials raise millions of dollars for humanitarian causes that the current extremely active hurricane season created. Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, but also George Clooney and many other celebrities joined this effort to offer relief to those affected. However, the world renowned participants didn’t avoid opening sensitive topics about politics and climate change either.

The Presence of Numerous Stars Helped Hurricane Telethon Raise at Least $14.5 Million

On Tuesday, all U.S. television networks broadcasted a one-hour telethon live entitled “Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief.” Beloved celebrities took part in this program and launched their heart-warming pleas for people to grow more united and help their neighbors overcome their distress. They performed live from New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Nashville calling out for acts of love and kindness.

At the end of the show, the organizers managed to raise $14.5 million, yet the telephones kept ringing. One of the most generous offers came on behalf of tech giant Apple. Those who rang were able to talk to George Clooney, Al Pacino, Jay Leno, Justin Bieber, Barbara Streisand, and Lupita Nyong’o to make their donations. Thanks to the large support the show received, the original goal to help victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas was expanded to alleviate those in Florida and Caribbean Islands as well.

Stevie Wonder Was the First Legend in the Entertaining Industry to Open the Show and Address Sensitive Topics

Celebrities set an affectionate and hopeful tone during the televised event by sharing survival stories of those afflicted by recent hurricane season, singing iconic songs, and inspiring community spirit by encouraging viewers to donate. The raised funds will be heading towards humanitarian organizations such as Save the Children and the United Way.

Stevie Wonder was the first artist to open the Hurricane Telethon. Amid his speech on kindness and love, he also made a reference to the controversial topic of climate change. However, for the legendary performer, this concept is not confusing at all. He claimed that anyone who refuses to trust the reality of this phenomenon is “blind or unintelligent.”
