Chelsea Manning, the former intelligence analyst who was convicted of espionage because she sent classified documents to the WikiLeaks website, has been approved to receive gender reassignment. She is currently serving a 35-year prison sentence for her deed. She is formerly known as Bradley Manning and was once believed to be male until she said in August 2013, one day after the court sentence, that she is actually a female.
An year after being convicted for leaking information, Manning, 27, filed a lawsuit in federal court, underlining the fact that she is a woman and is thus being mistreated and her situation is being denied the adequate medical treatment.
According to Defense Department officials, her treatment was finally approved on Feb. 5 by Col. Erica Nelson, a commandant of the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, where Manning is currently imprisoned.
Bradely Manning first step into becoming a woman was made in April 2014, when Manning changed her legal name form Bradley to Chelsea. It is possible for her to get out on parole in about seven years.
Nevertheless throughout her trial, a Navy psychiatrist analysed her and thus testified that Manning suffers from gender identity disorder, which means that she eagerly wants to be the opposite sex. Apart from this condition Manning suffers from narcissism and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
“The delay in treatment came with a significant cost to Chelsea and her mental health and we are hopeful that the government continues to meet Chelsea’s medical needs as is its obligation under the Constitution so that those harms may be mitigated,”
Chase Strangio, an attorney and counsellor for Manning said.
Lawyers who represented her, from the American Civil Liberties Union said that Manning was as at a high risk of suicide lest she receives the desired treatment. In addition to the hormonal therapy, Manning also requested for her right to live and dress as a woman. The memo that approved for Manning’s hormone treatment was reported by USA Today.
In spite of the fact that transgender people are forbidden to serve in the U.S. military, Manning can’t be discharged from service as she is currently serving her prison sentence.
Our country is going to hell in a hand basket, with the ACLU and their lawyers holding the door open for us. I don’t care what he wants to do to his body, I do care that I will be paying for it. If he wants to be a woman, he can do it after he gets out of prison and he can pay for it!!
Whew… this is great news! I was worried that we might be spending too much money on those other vets. You know… those on waiting lists with serious medical conditions.

There is absolutely, positively no reasonable, logical or legal excuse to declare cosmetic surgery medically necessary. If so… obama needs his head medically removed from his a*shole.

I don’t know why you guys writing to this post are so ignorant and full of bigotred, thanks to Chelsea Manning we are creating awarness and consciousness about the brutality and misuse of power by the top military and economic nations. Because of people like this Trans Woman Chelsea we are fighting againts systematic human enslavement and we have not yet reach a point that you guys will need biometric IDS and chips implanted so you can move anywhere you will be asigned. I hope so more people aprecciate what fighting for freedom really is and give people like Chelsea the respect that she deserves, she is a true hero, but you guys are too wired to see this.

Bradley Manning can get all the hormone treatments and surgeries he wants but it will NOT change the fact that physiologically he’s still MALE. The difference is that now he’s a mutilated male and the rest of us should applaud this sad situation?
