The General Motors Company revealed on early Friday morning that Chevrolet vehicles will get new theft notification alarm that will inform users whenever someone tries to steal their car. Chevrolet customers will first have to make sure that their vehicles feature the OnStar service in order for the alarm to be compatible with their models.
Theft notification alarms are always useful, so car manufacturer Chevrolet decided to help its customers safeguard their properties by providing their vehicles with the said service. Based on the company’s declaration, Chevrolet models have to have OnStar service in order for the alarm to work.
Moreover, the model has to be compatible with the alarm, which means that older versions have not been taken into consideration by Chevrolet when they have designed the new notification system.
However, the car manufacturer believes models that have been produced after 2014 are compatible with the new theft alarm.
The company has further explained how the app works. The user gets notified via phone message, email or phone call whenever someone tries to steal or illegally break into the car. The notification form is up to the user, who can choose any type of message, depending on his availability.
The OnStar system is also necessary because it provides drivers the exact location of the car based on its coordinates. In addition, the driver will know whether the police authorities have been notified or not with the help of the OnStar services.
As a matter of fact, Chevrolet’s OnStar option seems to be much more important than the actual theft notification. The system enables the owner of the car and authorities to trace and even to recuperate the car.
Chevrolet vehicles have been provided with special sensors that respond to the OnStar signals. Authorities can thus, remotely stop or slow the vehicle the moment they spot the thief.
Director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing, Sandor Piszar, explained the media that the company decided to develop this project in order to give customers the possibility to constantly supervise their properties even when they are not close to them.
He concluded the official declaration by hoping that these measures will help diminish car theft rates among Chevrolet vehicle owners.
