- Comet 45P will cross the night sky on New Year’s Eve.
- People will most likely forget about the illuminated ball in Times Square concentrating upon the comet.
- They will need a telescope or very good binoculars to witness the celestial event.
The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory has announced that on Saturday night, December 31, towards the end of 2016, a comet may be visible for everyone expecting the New Year. The year 2016 will have an epic end, exiting the scene after its last show: a celestial performance. The bright comet will traverse the night sky and become the main attraction of New Year’s Eve.
On December 28, the officials from this laboratory advised people to do not miss out on such an opportunity to witness an epic end of the year. NASA pointed out that Comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdusakova will pass right near the moon on December 31 when everybody will wait for 2016 to end.
NASA explained that this comet was predicted to appear on December 15 in the western horizon, displaying a bluish-green head towards the end December 21. This celestial object was categorized as being a periodic comet which passes through the inner solar system approximately every five years.
Dr. David Reitzel, who is an astronomical lecturer at Griffith Observatory in California, claimed that might only be possible if stargazers or those passionate about comets will use very advanced binoculars or telescopes. On December 31, people should be curious to point out in the sky their astronomical tools to observe or at least catch a glimpse of this unusual comet which will light up the sky.
The comet will occur in the west, immediately after sunset, appearing to the left of the crescent moon. It is advisable to be somewhere at an appropriate distance from residential lights which might impair your view. The year to come might be a good year when it comes to comet spotting. Throughout 2017, people will be able to spot a lot of comets.
