Now that ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ is out, DICE confirmed ‘Battlefield 5’ for next year as the next project that will be the focus of their attention.
- Part of DICE’s team will continue to work on ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’
- The rest will focus on ‘Battlefield 5’
- The game was first announced in October, with a prepared launch for late 2016
According to development director of DICE, Dan Vanderlin, only part of the team will remain working on ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ while the rest will be focusing on the fifth installment of the ‘Battlefield’ franchise. There is still a lot of work to do in the popular science-fiction world, so developers are not fully letting it run its course.
‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ was released in November, and saw to a successful launch. Paired with the anticipation of the upcoming ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ movies, fans of the series have rushed to purchase the videogame. However, it has been met with criticism. This was pointed at the limited content and flashy gameplay that hides the lack of substance.
There is little to do without multiplayer, and it may actually not be worth the money unless players have access to the servers. For consoles, this requires a subscription to Microsoft or Sony’s services. Otherwise, the game remains with little but the few co-op missions to enjoy. This decision has been avidly criticized, so it’s good news that the DICE is leaving a team to continue working on it.
According to the developer, the ‘Battle of Jakku’ DLC will not be the first of its kind, including the fact that it will be free. However, the rest of the team will be moving onto their next project: ‘Battlefield’.
The last released game, ‘Battlefield Hardline’, has been met with mixed reviews. It strayed from the franchise’s usual theme of military. Instead, it explored more of a fight between cops and robbers that didn’t prove to be to everyone’s taste. However, not all hope is lost, considering the franchise’s previous big game, ‘Battlefield 4’, is still doing well. There are still millions of players online even if it was released in 2013.
‘Battlefield 5’ was first announced in October, and it was scheduled for launch in fall 2016. It’s unknown yet if the date has changed. However, publisher Electronic Arts (EA) did confirm one thing: ‘Battlefield 5’ will be returning to its military roots. Gone will be the police and criminals sort of scenario.
In fact, DICE producer, Patrick Bach, stated that the next installment will be offering “more features, more extras, more destruction.”. That could be the essentials of what little details are offered about a military-focused videogame.
