Firefighters managed to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Association

 

Firefighters are heroes even in their free time. Every year they have this tradition called The “Fill the Boot” campaign. Firefighters across the U.S. participate in this event to raise money for people who struggle with Muscular Dystrophy Association. They managed to raise 25,5 million dollars last year, which we have to say is great.

• There are firefighters all across America who go in the streets and raise money for these patients.

This tradition dates back for more than sixty years. Money is used to find treatments for MDA and also to help patients who have this  disease. It also helps to send kids to the MDA summer camp, where they have fun with other children who have the same problem as they do. “Fill the boot” is a campaign in which firefighters are going on the streets and collect donations.

The American people wanted to help and every year they manage to raise an important amount of money for  MDA. We have to say we are impressed by what firefighters do. They save thousands of lives and also they want to help MDA patients to have better treatments. There should be more campaigns like this one. Every dollar can give people more chances to live.

Muscular dystrophy association is a group of muscle diseases that weaken the muscles and affects walking or moving. They are characterized by progressive skeletal muscle weakness and death of muscle tissue.  There is no official treatment for this, but there are ways you can maintain muscle tone. You will have to do therapy, aerobic and take some medication.

It has symptoms like poor balance, respiratory difficulty, limited range of movement. Those who are struggling with this disease are not able to walk or move in a normal way. There are people who die due to MDA, but there are others who survive. It depends on how fast the disease has extended. Some people are having heart problems or they can’t breathe which can be very dangerous. Of course, some patients try to find treatments.

It affects men even if women can have this disease too. It has more forms and some of them are really dangerous. We hope that firefighters will continue this tradition because it is the only hope some people have to live.
