The rumors have been proven true – you’ll be able to flash drive to your Windows 10 copy. And, as silly as it sounds you will really be able to have your Windows 10 neatly packed on an USB flash drive. Yes, I’m sorry DVDs, your time is done.
Still it is uncertain whether the arguably most popular operating system will be available on DVD as well. The guess is it will. Yet, Amazon has now made available Windows 10 preorders which are presented as “USB Flash Drive”, so there you have it. The versions currently available are the Windows 10 Home, and the Windows 10 Pro, the latter also being available in Spanish, besides the standard, English version.
The prices for the two versions will be $119.99 for Windows 10 Home, and $199.99 for Windows 10 Pro. These should confirm what a spokesperson for Microsoft has said that the prices in the U.S. should be the same as for Windows 8.1 – as those who already have this version, as well as Windows 7 users will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 freely once it has been launched.
The interesting fact to point out is that Amazon.com is the only place where you can find the preorders. The same spokesperson has also stated that Best Buy, the Microsoft Store, and all other major retailers will make the USB version available shortly after the official August 30th launch.
If you preorder the Amazon version, you will have free priority shipping via Prime. If you decide to upgrade from Windows 8, 8.1, or 7, be quick and don’t tarry too much on your old version, since you will only have one year to freely switch to the new version. After that, you will only have the option of buying the OS. Not all versions of the previous operating systems will be eligible for a free upgrade. Enterprise versions of 8.1 or 7 are not. Yet, if you have Pro or higher, you should have no problem.
Furthermore, users of older versions like Vista, or XP will not be able to upgrade their PC. It is still uncertain whether those with pirated versions will receive the update. There are numerous inactivated (“trial”) pirated versions which will definitely not get it, yet it is unknown whether the update program can, or will detect activated pirated versions. These are extremely widespread especially in underdeveloped countries
This is supposed to be the last numbered version of the famous OS built by Bill Gates. It is believed that future versions will be based on a subscription service, and will simply be called “Windows.”
