While other movies get their sequel team soon after their launch night, Warner Bros took its time picking out the team behind Suicide Squad sequel. Nonetheless, the giant company has finally settled on a winner. This time it is about Gavin O’Connor who will replace David Ayer as director and writer for the upcoming production that is part of the DC universe.

The New Director for Suicide Squad Sequel Shared an Earlier Project with Warner Bros Featuring Ben Affleck

Warner Bros has already worked with Gavin O’Connor for “The Accountant” featuring Ben Affleck as an autistic slash super warrior accountant with the focus on a brother to brother relationship. However, this will be the first time the new director will write for Warner Bros. Nonetheless, his reputation as a more of a pragmatic professional and less of an eclectic visionary makes him a perfect fit for the action movie featuring a group of villains.

The original Suicide Squad production gathered mostly negative criticism. Most of DC fans were disappointed when they saw that David Ayer wasn’t allowed to go off the books. Instead, he followed a clean, safe path with no blood, gore or original events and story twists that would present any sign of risky undertaking.

David Ayer Will Remain a Key Professional within the DC Family for a Different Suicide Squad Spinoff

Nonetheless, this movie was about complex, criminal minds that shouldn’t look too much like fighting for the good side. However, the original movie did manage to score a domestic revenue of $325 million from a $133 million debut. At a global level, the production earned $745 million which doesn’t make it a failure at all as far as finances are concerned.

In the meantime, David Ayer has not completely left the DC family. On the contrary, he remained to work on another spinoff within the same universe with the installment called “Gotham City Sirens.” The production will offer a closer insight into the wicked world that Harley Queen created around her.
