We’ve seen them in futuristic movies and videogames, but it seems that future is not too far away. A giant robot battle is awaited. The American company MegaBotsInc recently revealed their newly made robotic suit, standing tall at 15 feet, fully functional and ready for action.
“Mark II” is equipped with gigantic, powerful guns and tank treads for movement, weighing around an intimidating 5,400kg that will surely clear traffic if taken to the streets. Its two creators and pilots plan on this being the catalyst of a new sport, the new age version of the famous BattleBots.
Just like contact sports of old, this will pin robots against each other, a fight until the last drop of gasoline has been spilled. And, naturally, such an opponent requires a worthy adversary and MegaBotInc seem to have found their proper rival. They are not the first to develop a fully functioning robot, that title going, perhaps not surprisingly, to Japan.
The challenge has been extended to Suidobashi Heavy Industry, whose robot “Kurata” is also quite of an impressive sight. Perhaps it does not have the paintball blasting cannon that can bend a car of “Mark II”, but it’s certainly not rubble either. “Kurata” weights around 4,000kg with two accurate guns and an advanced targeting system included.
Perhaps they are not the Transformers we have grown up with or the mecha suits in Pacific Rim, but the inovation and possibility of a new sport has gotten people excited. The developers at MegaBotInc are eager to show off their newest project, but stated that we should not expect it earlier than July 2016.
However, they are not in any way uncertain if they wish to match up with the Japanese. As stated by MegaBotInc themselves, there’s a clear follow-up to the existence of two giant robots and battle is iminent. The two-man controlled mechanic beast only has one adversary in the world at the time and that is the slick “Kurata”.
Based on weight and sheer strength, the odds seem greatly in favor of the Americans and yet people are placing their bets on the Japanese. Neither should be underestimated though. MegaBotInch have given a year’s time for both robots to be battle-ready, fully armed and show the world what they can do.
So far, Suidobashi Heavy Industry has not replied to the challenge, but every tech buff and SciFi fan in the world is waiting with baited breath for a real life robot show down.
