If you wanted a pretty phone and purchased a glitter iPhone case, be careful with it, as you might get burned – literally. Several customers reported suffering chemical burns from these cases produced by MixBin Electronics. The company has already issued a recall for many of the cases it produced for several popular brands.
- Glitter iPhone cases might give you chemical burns if the liquid leaks.
- The company that produced them is MixBin Electronics, and has already recalled over 260,000 products.
- These cases vary in color, have a glitter and liquid filling, and promote different brands.
MixBin Electronics produces smartphone accessories for several brands as a third-party manufacturer. This means that neither Apple nor any of the brands which ordered the cases are to blame for this incident. The subjects of the recall contain glitter and liquid, which turned out to be dangerous if they leaked.
The official recall notice has already been published by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, and involves cases for iPhone 6, 6s, and 7. The problem was quite serious, as more than 260,000 products were subjects of the recall. Among the brands they promoted, there were Amazon, Victoria’s Secret, or Nordstrom Rack.
There is not one single color in which the recalled cases came, as the model was different for each brand. However, they all share the glitter and liquid filling on their back, accompanied by specific artwork and the name of the brand they represent.
Some of these glitter fillings happened to leak, and people reported suffering blisters, redness, itching and, in the most severe cases, chemical burns. So far, 24 people suffered either chemical burns or severe skin irritation. One of them was even left with a permanent scar. Also, only 19 of these people were from the US, so other countries are likely to be effected by the recall as well.
