A recent update has made room for a very cool playground among wearable tech users. Google Maps on Android wear is the latest update release from Google, which allows its users to permanently be connected to the maps feature.
Checking out directions from the tiny screen on your wrist may prove to be difficult, as the resolution and width of the device call for attention and good sight but still, it’s quite cool to have the feeling that you will never get lost.
The Android Wear 5.1.1 is now rolling out to all the compatible smartwatches and it was announced last month. LG Watch Urbane was the only device that benefitted from the update, until recently, when Google adapted the update to a larger number of wearable devices.
The greatest news about Android Wear 5.1.1 is that it’s fixed its bugs and brings new improvements and features on the table. Google Maps on Android wear is one of the main steps in making wearable technology efficient and available in common life situations.
For the smartwatches, Android Wear 5.1.1 provides an always on display feature that we all craved for in the past and it is finally arriving directly on our wrists. The new app envelops a brand new launcher, wrist gestures, heads-up notifications and the ability to draw emojis. You can also change the font size and lock the screen of a device with the help of the new Google update.
Wi-fi is also a covered pain point, coming along with the new Google update and will allow us to stay permanently connected. The downside is that this particular feature won’t be available for all the smartwatches. The only winners in this story are LG Watch Urbane, Sony Smartwatch 3, Samsung Gear Live and Moto 360 are the exclusive items provided with support for Wi-Fi.
To fully benefit from the Android Wear update, users are advised to purchase the latest Android Wear Smartphone Application.
This is not the only piece of news coming from the Google giant. They also plan to leverage the quality of on-watch phone calls that will require speakers to form part of the apparatus in order to let the user listen to the caller. To support that, a microphone is needed and it’s already present on current devices, provided they feature “Okay Google” support.
On-watch phone calls are still novelty for Android Wear devices although they have been spotted on other smartwatches already. The most popular smartwatch to encompass this feature is Samsung Gear S.
Wearable tech seems to take serious shape with all the new upgrades and features it offers. Besides the tech giants there are also third party organizations that make constant efforts to release new apps, compatible with the new smartwatches.
