A new research conducted by the American Diabetes Association shows that infants with obese parents are obesity-prone. This conclusion was reached after medical experts have compared cells from children with normal-weight mothers to those of kids having overweight moms.
The American Diabetes Association has always been preoccupied with the health and looks of the American citizens. Their interest has grown in the past years as statistics have shown that increasingly more American have weight problems.
Recent endeavors have been carried out to determine the factors that lead to an increased body fat percentage among Americans. Studies have shown that the bad eating habits that U.S. inhabitants have, more specifically, their preference for junk food and large cans of sodas are the main culprits for obese problems. Topped with a low physical activity, it seems like Americans have discovered the safe way to bodily decay.
However, scientists think the obesity problems that people may encounter are not always caused by their unhealthy behavior. Sometimes, it is the genetic data we inherit from our parents that is responsible for the excessive body fat.
The American Diabetes Association was aware that there is a strong link between parents’ heritage and obesity in children, but they did not know when these problems begin to emerge. For that matter, they have withdrawn several cells from infants with normal-weight parents and others from kids with overweight moms.
The cells have been chemically treated in laboratories so they would evolve into adult cells. Results have shown that the cells that were taken from children with overweight mother presented 30 percent more fat than the other tissues.
Medical experts have explained the meaning of the experiment. They have told the press that results suggest that children will automatically develop more fat on their bodies even if they lead healthy, active lives.
There isn’t much they can do. They are basically forced to keep a close eye on their weight to avoid other obesity problems, was the official conclusion of the researchers.
The experiment has further shown that most of the obesity problems occur because the child has an inborn insulin resistance. This mutation is expected to occur in fetus formation, therefore, scientists will spend the following period studying this phenomenon among fetuses of overweight moms.
