A man, who has been indicted and is wanted with the murders of an elderly Ohio couple and a number of armed robberies in three other states, was finally arrested on Thursday. The arrest was accomplished after a high-speed car chase in Arizona, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.
Robert Roy Clark, 29, formerly of Dennison and Canton, Ohio, was captured by Law Enforcement agents early Thursday in Kingman, Arizona, along with Tabatha Marie Hazel, 27. Hazel was also named as a suspect in the robberies. Authorities are still searching for a third suspect Jeffrey Caley Jr., 28, who fled the scene, according to the FBI.
All the three suspects named above have been identified in a in surveillance video at robberies at gas stations in West Virginia and Georgia and a 7-Eleven in South Carolina, federal authorities have said. The suspects were seen displaying a sawed-off shotgun and a pistol and were considered dangerous, officials said.
Clark who carried a reward of $20,000 offered by the FBI is wanted for the murders of Doyle Chumney, 88, and Lillian Chumney, 79, of Strasburg, Ohio. The Chumney’s house was ransacked and their burned car with their skeletal remains was discovered in a rural area. FBI officials arrested Robert Clark and one of his accomplices, Tabatha Hazel, in Arizona. A third accomplice named Jeffrey Caley, Jr., is still free. The 29 year old Clarke is the primary accused in the murder of an elderly couple in Strasburg, Ohio, before embarking on a spree of armed robberies along with three other accomplices.
The authorities were in hot pursuit of the trio after the discovery of the bodies of the elderly couple. Police said that the trio after the murders fled to Ohio. The three were implicated in the robbery and the murders after the arrest of Jeffrey Stewart, 21, who was charged over the weekend in his own alleged role in the attack. It is still not clear exactly what crimes Stewart may have committed.
