We live in the era where technology is slowly taking over human interactions and processes, with new inventions arising on the market to make our lives easier and bring our spirits higher. Meet Lily, a waterproof drone that follows you around, takes giant 360 degree pictures and looks cute.
Lily is a startup for the time being but it might be the next best thing when it passes the beta stage of its launch. With Lily you can take pictures, you can have her follow you everywhere, flying around and you can command her to take pictures of you and your friends.
Although Lily isn’t yet her best version, the perspectives are promising. The guys in charge with its development must think of how they can adapt her to the outdoor environment, activate her flying capacities without risking to bump into things, how to keep it close to the person it is supposed to track and how to activate Wi-Fi functions. Reviews also say that its GPS is not accurate enough yet.
Although flying a drone can come with some sophisticated instructions, Lily is far from that. Her technological characteristics allow even for the most clumsy of us to direct and set her according to our needs and desires.
The initial price for this item is $499 but it will probably go higher once the investments in his upgraded version start to take shape. It is expected to break the markets on February 2016 and it will probably retail for double the initial price.
Critics go further commenting about the price. For a consumer toy, to spend $1000 can be pretty much a budget waste. Yes, it is cute and it follows you everywhere with its flying capacities but it doesn’t put food on the table. The amazing technology always comes for a price, they say, but we can’t afford to pay the price of poverty just to take nice selfies. Or not just yet, as for the most passionate of us this is worth saving hundreds of bucks.
Lily embodies a GoPro Hero 3 equivalent camera, it’s not the best on the market but it’s anyhow promising. Also, what is most fascinating about Lily is that you can fly it without worrying that some complicated settings will make things hard on you. Flying a drone can be tricky but Lily comes with easy settings and user-friendly applications that will help each and every one of us understand the tangled workings of a drone.
Successful ideas are about making complicated things easy and Lily is one of the best examples in that concern. It makes technological companionship easy and opens paths of new forms of interactions between humans and robots.
If in the past we used to read stories about flying carpets as greatest companions now we can translate the flying carpet experience into a mini drone. It doesn’t carry us around on its magical surface but it walks along with us, takes commands, takes pictures of the places and people we want to capture and teaches us how to fly it and understand its robot workings.
In spite of the price and comments in the press, Lily is a breakthrough when it comes to consumer markets, it brings all the magic we only used to read in books.
