This week was all about the new app that is having a hard time trying to rival other digital assistants, but people expect Microsoft Cortana to improve.
- Cortana is a competitor to Siri
- The digital assistant will have Health Integration for fitness tracking
- Users want real-life Cortana
The internet has been raging all week about Cortana, pros and cons and of course comparisons between the Microsoft app and the Apple app, Siri. Siri is very well known and appreciated or hated by iOS users. The comparison between the two apps started when Microsoft launched the application for iOS, making people curious of whether the new Cortana could replace Siri.
It seems that many were disappointed and thought Microsoft didn’t even bother to test the app on iOS before launching it, but nevertheless, we know for sure Cortana is doing her job very well on Windows 10. The app is also available in an Android version in the Google Play Store.
It is quite obvious that an app created to run on Windows could have trouble functioning at high capacity on other systems. But Microsoft is still betting its money on Cortana and will continue to work on updates to make it better.
One of the updates Microsoft is introducing for Cortana is Health Integration. This means Cortana will help you track fitness metrics like how many steps you’ve taken or how many calories you’ve burnt. The digital assistant is also integrated with other applications such as Xbox Live, LinkedIn, Uber or Office 365.
Microsoft is trying to satisfy it users by offering them exactly what they want. Are they mind-readers? No, but they recently launched a website called Share Your Idea, where users can come up with ideas for applications and updates.
The ideas are being voted by other users and Microsoft promises to actually develop the top three ideas from this website. One of the ideas is to create a hologram of Cortana that would still work as a digital assistant. However, the interaction would be taken up a notch with a ‘real-life’ Cortana.
Some of you know, especially if you’re a gamer, that Cortana was inspired and derived from an artificial intelligence character from the series Halo. Therefore, it is only normal that gamers would ask for that character to come alive and become as real as there can be.
