The 17 year old teenage girl who went missing Wednesday night returned safely to her parents after a night long search. Sarah Wills, the missing 17yo teenager had last been seen at approximately 8 PM on Wednesday evening on Germantown Avenue. Authorities had then feared that she had gotten lost in the woods in Chestnut Hill.
Following a night long search and coordinated police efforts, Sarah was found sleeping under a tree in the woods. According to police Det. James Sloan, officers found Sarah on Thursday morning, around 7 AM.
The girl who emerged from the woods shivering, wrapped in a blanket, was driven to Chestnut Hill Hospital where she received the necessary medical care.
Chief Inspector Scott Small explains that the girl’s father had dialed 911 on Wednesday evening after not being able to find his daughter. The two were returning from a concert that the girl had attended in Camden, at the Susquehanna Bank Center. They had pulled the car over near the woods on Germantown Avenue so that Sarah could relieve herself.
SWAT units and K-9 units were sent in to scour the wooded area for Sarah. The teenager’s personal belongings (including her purse) were found in the woods so authorities suspected that foul play had been involved in the events. Officers used lights and thermal detectors and a helicopter was employed to help search for the teenager.
Although police officers had feared a possible abduction, Sarah walked out of the wooded area and was reunited with her family.
According to detective Sloan’s statement, Sarah had gotten lost and could not find her way back out of the woods. This isn’t the only high-profile case that detective Sloan has solved. Back in November, Sloan was in charge of finding 22 year old Carlesha Freeland Gaither, who had been abducted off a busy city street.
