Most social media platforms are trying to keep us close to people and well informed, and, now, more notifications on the Facebook mobile app have been added to personalize our experience.
- Facebook updated their notification bar with more “cards”
- Users will receive local news, local weather reports, local events, and movies playing in/near their location
- The update will slowly roll out for both Android and iOS
- Users will need to enable Location History for it to work
Facebook is pulling all the stops to make sure it will offer everything under the sun. Ranging from the normal pictures, messaging app, videos, or news, the most popular social media platform is there for you. And yet, the expansion of features seems never-ending.
Facebook announced today that they have added more notification settings for the mobile app. Users will now be enabled to choose more things that will pop up on the small tab to inform them of various events. This will go beyond friends posting, their birthdays, or upcoming events. Slowly, but surely, the social media platform will incorporate more useful features.
As of today, they will be offering their users a new slew of notifications, including local news, local weather, local events, and nearby movies playing in locations near you. The pattern is pretty easy to understand. Facebook is trying to personalize your experience based on your location, and the likes you have given out to various pages.
According to Facebook product manager, Keith Peiris, they have been receiving feedback from users that they wish for more information. And all of it should be gathered in just one place, at a click of the button. The social media platform is certainly popular enough to be that one app most use.
As stated by Peiris, this will enable user accounts to see more details about “things happening around your community”, including popular news. Of course, one would be required to enable their Location History for this to work. Once the app knows where you are, it will know what to tell you.
However, if the new notification settings and options does not sound good to everyone, fear not. Peiris has claimed that these are “opt-in” choices. Once the update gradually rolls out to all Android and iOS devices, it will become an option, not a mandatory feature. Nothing will change on your notification settings until you want it to. But you do have the option now.
By going into your notification settings, you will, at some point, see that there are more features to enable. If users choose to check them, they will be notified instantly, as per Facebook’s habit.
The social media platform is getting bigger, and attempting to become more helpful. It’s certainly seems like they want to assure their users stay active and dependant on their app for everything.
