With powerhouses such as Microsoft and Sony on the market, it’s been a near impossible task for any developer to keep up, but the next-gen Nintendo is on its way, sources report. Fans have become excited with rumors and leaks all around the web claiming that the new and mysterious Nintendo NX will be released mid-July 2016.
However, given the company’s history and unlikely timing, it’s possible that the rumor will remain just that, a rumor to tease the fans. It’s been known that the seventh generation of consoles, formed by Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii was the biggest in terms of competition and sales. All three systems stood their ground and successfully battled against each other.
The next generation, however, left Nintendo fans disappointed. While Microsoft with Xbox One and Sony with PlayStation 4 remained toe-to-toe, the Nintendo Wii U fell drastically behind and almost out of the running. It’s been struggling to keep up and failing by currently sitting at a mere 9,5 million sales worldwide while Xbox One, for example, reached the 10 million mark only one year after its release in 2014.
An industry insider who has offered reliable leaks throughout the years, has claimed that the new Nintendo NX does not mean to compete with PlayStation 4 on a power level. And nothing else. The statement has only increased the mystery surrounding the upcoming Nintendo, without an explanation to what ‘power level’ even means.
Assumptions were made by excited fans and gamers, discussing the implication of how “it would not compete with PlayStation 4”. The most popular answer is that Nintendo plans on creating a new platform altogether, a fresh way to approach gaming and possibly exceed its rivals in innovation.
This has only served to lift the bar of expectations and it’s understandable why Nintendo refuses to make more statements for now. They promised that any major news about the NX will be confirmed in 2016 and made no comments on its release date. That makes its mid-July debut highly unlikely.
It’s very unusual for a new system of such a grand scale from a major developer to be released only a few months after official statements. It will place Nintendo’s Wii U’s lifespan at only four years, which is also quite untypical for console releases, and the company’s history does not align with the story.
After the letdown of its predecessor, Nintendo NX would be a risk to rush and it makes some fans and avid gamers skeptical if the reports are true. However excited they might be, an overwhelming majority picked the possibility of a better quality product over a quicker production.
No other statements have been made and it leaves the gaming community with nothing but anticipation and another half a year that will likely be filled with rumors and false leaks. In spite of its unsuccessful attempts against its competitors, the possibility of a new platform altogether could make Nintendo the dark horse of the competition.

I feel as is next gen Nintendo is going to be a success. Despite , the rumor the NX won’t match the ps4, I believe it will. Now if it doesn’t I think Nintendo will do something and crazy like the NX backwards compatible all the way back to the nes or make the NX be able to play PC games.
