It’s been two years, but the PC is finally getting Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen expansion that will allow gamers to further explore the open world role playing game developed by Capcom.
It’s a challenging market out there, with RPGs exploring every environment gamers could possibly think of, and now games have enough trouble edging in on the profits even without restricting their releases on certain platforms.
Nevertheless, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen officially launched in 2013 as an expansion to the original Dragon’s Dogma, that reportedly fixed all its issues, and made it into quite a decent game, considering the strong competition it has been facing. However, its own optimization issues had stopped it from taking over the PC as well.
Dark Arisen was released as the original’s 2012 Dragon’s Dogma follow-up game, but only on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which has left both next-gen console owners and PC gamers out of the fold. In spite of its mild system requirements where it regarded power or graphics, it has been long asked for by fan of the series.
Now, Capcom has revealed that the expansion will indeed arrive on the PC in January 2016, via Steam for $30, and promised that the game will feature all the graphics goodness expected from the higher performing platform. In fact, they claimed that it would have “stunningly high-res graphics and improved fidelity”, a relief for those who are often skeptical about PC compatibility for console games.
It is a bit late though, and it could be put to question on how the game would fare with such incredible competition. The Witcher 3, for example, is a vast RPG game, full of variety and an astounding amount of content that guarantees it would keep the player’s attention for a long, long, long time. The franchise will also be adding its first expansion in October, so that adds more pressure for Capcom’s beloved game.
However, perhaps a few months will be enough for the gaming community to get bored of the additional content, and will turn to Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen instead, to explore the same genre of epic fantasy of huge monster fights, magic, and AI characters there to help you.
There is a certain charm attached to Capcom’s RPG, and that is most likely it’s unique ‘pawn’ system, which implies player controlled AI characters that help you within certain missions. These companions, however, can also be traded with online players, and enables gamers to getting most appropriate one for a particular mission.
It’s quite a useful feature, and perhaps two years have not been enough for PC users to completely put the Dragon’s Dogma series out of their mind.
