Population of Hawaii will be treated to a cosmic meteor shower. The Earth will pass through the orbital path of Comet Tempel-Tuttle. The Leonid Meteor Shower will start tonight, Thursday November 13 2014. The meteor shower occurs once in 33 years. As per the Bishop Museum, the Leonids were the cause of the most stunning meteor shower over Hawai‘i in recent times which occurred in 2001. The biggest meteor had occurred in 1966 with the Leo at its most radiant form.
The Leonid cosmic meteor shower is described as one of the most beautiful with the meteor particles falling like rain. The rates of the meteor shower are as high as thousands per minute. The next episode of the Leonid meteor shower is not expected before the turn of the century.
The Leonids are considered a minor meteor shower with a peak rate of10 to 15 meteors per minute. Since the moon phase is waning, it will be a prime time to view the meteor shower. So keep your fingers crossed
