This could speak volumes, and perhaps Fallout 4 is better than porn or at least it seemed to be for a little while on the highly-anticipated game’s release.
- Fallout 4 launched on November 10th
- PornHub’s daily views dipped 10% on that day, from 60 million views to around 54 million
- Fallout 4 has received high praise, and reported 400,000 concurrent players just on Steam
- The game already sold 12 million copies
They say that the internet is good for two things: porn and complaining. PornHub is the largest provider for one of those things, and the name should be enough to understand which. The website gets 60 million daily visitors on their free videos, and boasts enough traffic to actually expand into other areas. Their success will probably last until people stop watching porn. So, essentially, it will be endless.
However, their remarkably high numbers have seen a bit of a dip on November 10th, the day Bethesda’s Fallout 4 came out with fireworks and a fanfare. It was surely one of the most anticipated games of the year, and it seems to have delivered. And, even more, it seemed to pull out the same demographic as PornHub.
On the day of the game’s release, the popular porn site saw to a 10% dip during peak ‘gaming hours’. That means they had 6 million less views. Reportedly, the traffic started to slow down between 5 A.M., bounced back at 3 P.M., and then once again gamers returned to the post-apocalyptic Boston around dinner time.
For a little while, gamers set aside porn and preferred indulging in the beautifully crafted gaming experience created by Bethesda. After all, there’s only so much time in the day. The power of Fallout 4 was strong enough to beat out porn just for a little while. It counts.
It might come as a bit of a surprise. Gamers have likely taken time off work, off school, and left the outside world neglected in order to experience the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Apparently, it also cut down on their ‘naughty time’.
PornHub, however, is being a true sport about it. According to its president, Corey Price, this was entirely expected. In fact, he declared that they’re “huge fans” of the game themselves, and “would have done the same”. And they didn’t miss the opportunity to both poke fun and promote, as the “anticipation of release has been building up”, and when that moment arrived, gamers “thought of little else”. Just like a good PornHub video.
The good-natured reaction was expected. This isn’t the first time PornHub has shown an interest in gaming. They have recently voiced out their intentions of sponsoring several professional gaming teams. Their partnership has been offered and it’s likely that they will be gathering up some professional gamers soon enough.
If there’s is a competition between gaming and porn though, perhaps this might bring a different kind of use for the Pip-Boy wrist band. However, we can easily assume that the porn industry is still safe.
