According to reports, PlayStation 4 already released its own remote control with universal capabilities that they had previously announced for later this month.
- The Universal Media Remote is made by Performance Designed Products in cooperation with Sony
- It will enable control of the console’s functions, players, and of three additional devices
- The remote control is available now for $30
It’s a new and interesting accessory for everyday use on the next-gen console. With the incredible speed technology is advancing, your usual gaming platform is so much more than just that. It can be used for varied types of media, including streaming or watching movies.
And, in order to keep up with those functions, a remote control was in need to fill in the gaps where the controller was uncomfortable.
For those interested in using their PlayStation 4 as much more than the excellent performing gaming platform it is, Sony in partnership with Performance Designed Products (PDP) have come up with the Universal Media Remote. It will help users easily peruse through the console’s interface, as well as other devices.
It seems Sony has listened to the requests of their customers. While the DualShock 4 are perfectly loved controllers, they can pose as quite a hindrance in movie watching. So, the company has come up with an easier and simpler solution to control content or navigate through the interface.
And since a remote just for your PlayStation 4 was not quite enough, PDP has designed it with other uses to heighten its appeal.
The Universal Media Remote can also be used to control your TV, cable box or audio receiver. It has the capabilities of controlling three additional devices, outside its main intent of being used with the PS 4.
It comes in a very sleek design, in theme with the next-gen console, and a few key features that are trademark for Sony’s product. Buttons like the square, the circle, the triangle, and the ‘x’ will be there to keep in tone, though it’s quite certain that they will be not used for gaming. At least not for any game that might require complex actions.
The Universal Media Remote will also function perfectly with popular streaming platforms such as Netflix, YouTube, Twitch, HBO Go, and PlayStation services. It will allow for smooth navigating through the options, and more comfortable handling through Bluetooth. This is beyond the obvious players, such as Blu-Ray Disc Player, on the PS 4.
The remote will be packed with two AAA batteries, which is reported to last you at least 6 months. However, their lifespan will certainly depend on its daily use. It definitely matter how often the user chooses to view movies through their console.
The Universal Media Remote is now available at GameStop for $29.99, and is scheduled to be available on Amazon on October 27th of this year.
