“Prey” is Nothing Special, But a Good Game Overall
On May 5th, Bethesda released “Prey”, a new horror video game set in space which the developers meant as a remake of the original 2006 concept. While the concept is indeed the same, the game draws a lot form newer games like “Deus Ex” or “Dishonored”.
- “Prey” came out on May 5th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
- It shares the same developer with “Dishonored”
- It is meant as a scary reboot of the 2006 classic concept
While many experts shared almost the same opinion, that the game struggles to find its identity, it is not that scary and does not have amazing action, it seems like “Prey” is that kind of title which grows on you. This may be especially true for the fans of the original one, who feel nostalgic and may want to try something new but similar. However, if we are to believe the experts, the game gets better and better as you progress and understand it better. It does not suddenly become game of the year material, but it transforms into something worth enjoying.
One of the most interesting points in the game is when, confronted with the decision to upgrade your already very cool and useful powers (telekinesis, increase in health, unlocking doors), you receive a warning. If you will become too strong, the station you are on might seem you as a threat. A security screener even asks you at one point if you are still human, implying that you can also go too far and become something entirely different.
“Prey” also has its puzzle moments. A very well-executed one is when battling a boss which hits you with energy strong enough to kill you in one shot. It takes a lot of thinking to realize what you have to do in order to beat that alien. It is impossible to do it with your bare hands, so you will have to sometimes improvise. “Prey” has its amazing moments. Unfortunately, they are not too many. Still, it is that kind of game that you want to keep on playing anyway, despite its obvious flaws. So, if you are looking for a nice action-horror videogame set in space, this is the one for you. Just do not expect something extraordinary. You will be disappointed.
