Local Guides has received an update, and now reviewers on Google Maps can get 1TB of free storage space by simply participating in making the software better.
- Google will be rewarding those who review restaurants and locations on Google Maps
- At level 4, users will be receiving 1TB of free storage space
- Normally, the extra 1TB costs a monthly fee of $10
- At level 5, reviewers will be rewarded with a place at the first Local Guides summit in 2016
The tech giant announced that their Local Guides program has seen an update that will reward its most active users. By uploading photos, leaving trusted reviews, and adding information about local restaurants or tourist spots, anyone could become eligible for prizes. This is Google’s way of keeping their users engaged and encouraging more.
The program arrives with a very simple premise. Participate, be active, and you get the chance of getting several benefits from Google. There are different levels to advance through. Each contribution, no matter what type, is worth 1 point, so by posting pictures, reviews, and comments on just one location can add up to 5 total points.
Level 1 (between 0 to 4 points) will automatically enter users in Google exclusive contests, such as winning new devices.
Level 2 (between 5 to 49 points) will make users eligible for numerous giveaways, including Google products, and new features. Namely, this could offer quick access to new updates, news, or others.
At Level 3 (between 50 to 199 points), users will be getting their Local Guides badge next to their name. This will proudly label them as trusted reviewers, along with the added benefits of the lower levels. However, level 4 is where the draw is at, encouraging most users to work a little harder.
At Level 4 (between 200 to 399 points), all users will receive 1TB of extra free storage space on their Google Drive. This will certainly increase the standard limit of 15GB, where they will be able to continue uploading pictures, videos, and many others to their heart’s desire. And, most likely, it will also further encourage them to progress through the levels.
Traditionally, the 1TB storage space costs $9.99 per month, but Level 4 users will be getting it for free.
There is one more rank to advance to that provides with future prizes. Level 5 reviewers will become eligible to attending the first ever Local Guides summit in 2016. This will mean the opportunity of meeting other top guides from around the world, exploring the Google campus, and receiving the latest news about Google Maps.
The tech giant is giving out incentives for every user to become a more active reviewer. Perhaps it’s exactly the push needed.
