Singapore Airlines believes comfort is the best upgrade a first class offer can receive to entice more customers. The company announced new changes to its First Class Suites at the beginning of 2017. However, it took almost a year to officially present the novel concept that sports the first double beds up in the air.
The Reconfigured Suites Will Offer Only Two Cabins with Double Beds for Couples
At the moment, A380s from Singapore Airlines put at the disposal of customers 12 luxurious suites located at the front of the lower deck. However, the future configuration of the same airplanes will reduce this number to six such first class cabins. They will follow a 1 – 1 pattern with one suite on the side of the aisle. However, the small space will feature both cozy chairs and beds for a comfortable experience.
Each cabin will have a Poltrona Frau armchair covered in leather. The stool will be 21 inches wide, and customers will be able to recline it to up to 135 degrees. However, it will become immobile during takeoffs and landings for the safety of the passengers.
The Suites will come with their own stowable beds. Their generous size will measure 27 inches wide and 76 inches long. A cotton Lalique duvet will cover the mattress together with two pillows.
However, the novel part of this first class upgrade will be the double beds. Couples will have to book early if they want to seize the double person cabin. There will be only two such offers on a Singapore Airlines plane. This spacious cabin is formed by combining two of such suites together. The result will offer two Poltrona Frau armchairs and a full-size bed.
Singapore Airlines Will Spend $850 Million on This First Class Overhaul
Each suite will offer a 32-inch HD monitor for passengers’ private entertainment. The table next to the armchair incorporates both dining and working surfaces.
This major overhaul will cost the flag carrier a total of $850 million. The reconditioning will take place in 19 superjumbos out of which five will be brand new. However, the price tag for a seat on the First Class Suites might vary from $6,000 to $8,000 for the Singapore-Sydney route.
