Climate change can be a threat for future Summer Olympics

Have you ever thought that maybe, someday, it would be too hot for the Summer Olympics to take place? Climate change is affecting us and our environment, but it seems that, in the future, we will not be able to handle the temperature during summertime. The athletes that are now in Rio are competing in temperatures higher than 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Climate change could be a major issue for the future Summer Olympics.
  • Only a few cities will host the games as there will be too hot in many regions of our planet.
  • We must make some changes if we want our children to have a better place to live than we did.

We all know that temperatures will get higher with every year. Researchers are warning that if global temperatures are going to rise, only several cities will be cool enough to host the summer Olympics in one hundred years.

Kirk Smith, a professor of global environment at the University of California, said that with temperatures rising all over the world, almost everywhere is going to be risky to do the Olympics as we’ve done it. Think of how difficult is for you to exercise during summer. Now think of the athletes who will be put at risk of heat stress and that will get tired because of it. Latin America or Africa won’t be able to host the Olympics. Only in Western Europe the temperatures will allow us to hold the games.

It seems that when it is too hot, the runner has an increased heart rate and reduced blood flow.

There are some changes that could be made in order to avoid these things from happening. The marathon could be moved to the winter Olympics or the games could be hosted just in one city. We know that it would not be the same, but climate change is affecting us and we must find a way to make the games easier for the athletes.

For some people 2085 seems to be far away,  but is not. Think of this thing: babies that are born today are not going to be alive in 2085, which means that our children will be part of those changes. Global warming is a big threat for all of us. It will affect the way we live and our health. We should pay more attention to our planet if we want our children to have a place to live.
