The Yum Brands-owned Taco Bell unveiled Wednesday a new addition to its One Dollar Menu: The Nacho Fries. The new menu item will reportedly sell for a limited period of time, starting Jan. 25.
The price of a portion of Nacho Fries will be $1. The company plans to test other 19 $1 items nationwide after successful tests in California and West Virginia last year. The new additions come as the chain’s dollar menu is already packed with more than a dozen menu items including cinnamon twists and breakfast tacos.
Other companies are following suit. Jack in the Box has launched its dollar menu called “Value Done Jack’s Way” with items’ prices ranging between $1 and $5. McDonald’s has restored its tremendously popular Dollar Menu with items that cost up to $3.
Taco Bell’s New One Dollar Menu Item
Taco Bell customers can customize their order of seasoned fries with:
- beef, pico de gallo, or sour cream – a mix called ‘Supreme’ for $2.49,
- nacho cheese,
- or larger portions of beef, pico de gallo, or sour cream – a mix dubbed ‘Bel Grand,’ which costs $3.49.
Taco Bell has also a $5 box which contains the Nacho Fries, a medium soda, one Cheesy Gordita Crunch, and a Doritos Locos taco.
The changes are designed to make Taco Bell more competitive in the so-called Dollar Menu war. Restaurants know that in order to survive they’ll have to focus on value, quality, and convenience. Like many of its rivals, Taco Bell has opted for limited-time offers and discounted menu items repeatedly.
According to a spokesperson for the company, $1 menu items enabled Taco Bell to generate over $450 million in revenue last year, while the $5 boxes brought an extra $1 billion to the Mexican food chain.
