A teenage girl from Runcorn, England, has been battling with cancer since she was four years old. After finally defeating the deadly disease, she was banned from attending her school’s prom. The school officials explained they did this for her own well-being, but that couldn’t stop the girl from feeling disappointed.
- The teenage girl had a cancerous brain tumor removed, and was looking forward to the school prom.
- However, she wasn’t allowed to attend it, because she couldn’t go to school for the last six months.
- The school officials claimed they did everything for her health.
Alex Dallas, aged 16, has been struggling with the horrible disease since the age of four. Finally, she underwent a successful surgery going on for 12 hours, and managed to have the brain tumor removed. When she returned home, she started getting ready for the long-awaited event, but then she found out she couldn’t go.
She had already spent more than $650 on a custom dress, as well as make-up and dozens of hair products. Alex declared this was a once in a lifetime moment, and had been looking forward to it since she was a little girl.
Her mother, Sam Mattison, is outraged. After undergoing such a difficult surgery, this was precisely what she needed. She wanted that her daughter should be treated like all the other students, and cannot understand why they find her threatening and forbid her to attend the prom.
When questioned about this incident, a spokesperson from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy said they took this decision in Alex’s benefit. She hadn’t attended school for the last six months, so they couldn’t say how well she would feel during the prom.
Therefore, they asked her to come to school for two weeks before the prom, one hour each day. This would have allowed the officials to establish if she is able to attend the ceremony, as well as interact with other students. Unfortunately, Alex couldn’t attend these special ‘classes’, so they felt obliged to ban her from the prom. They claim everything was for her own health and well-being.
