The four new Desires of HTC are hitting the stores in the U.S. pretty soon, and we’ve decided to look into what these phones offer to the American customers. You probably are not that familiar with this name, and you probably did not see it in its natural habitat amidst all those iPhones, but it may soon happen.
HTC is pushing big money into its U.S. strategies, and it will probably pay off. Unless someone devises a dastardly plan to thwart their efforts. No, I’m not looking at you, Apple. But, the fact is, the Taiwanese tech masters have partnered with every prepaid cellular carrier there is in the U.S., as well as making special versions of their devices for AT&T and Verizon. This is clearly an attempt to cover the whole of the distribution possibilities.
So, without further ado, let’s meet the stars of the show.
The first is the HTC Desire 520. It boasts a crystal clear FWVGA display, measuring 4.5 inches. But for all that screen, its memory is a bit shaky, with just 1 gigabyte of RAM available. The device will be available exclusively through the wireless carrier Cricket. A good call?
The second device, the HTC Desire 526, is like an older, more tempered brother of the 520. It has 0.2 more inches in the display section, it being the sharp, vivid, and no less beautiful qHD technology we’ve come to expect from HTC. The RAM of this is 1.5 gigabytes, a bit more than the 520. Like the 520, though, it has 8 gigabytes of internal memory, which, naturally, can be extended in both with either a microSD, or a microSDXC memory card. The Desire 526 will be only available to Verizon customers.
Now, we’ve come to the best actor section, in which we will be discussing the HTC Desire 626. Now we’re talking: 5 inch display, with the resolution of a PC screen, 1.280 by 720. The front camera makes it the perfect selfie-machine, with 5MPs being more than sufficient. The 16 GBs of storage are more than sufficient for the average user, but you can, of course, add a memory card if you would like to.
The 626 will be available in Verizon and AT&T versions. Its design is a more styled plastic, if you compare it to that of the 520, or the 526. Still, if we are to bring in some not so amazing qualities of the 626, it’s the RAM. With a display like that, memory like that, with 8MP on the main camera (likewise all four), and 5 on the front one, and it being the leader of its squadron, you would expect a bit more. You would expect at least 2 gigabytes.
Sadly though, this desire is not satisfied. The Desire 626 only has a mere 1.5 gigabytes of random access space. That’s just as much as the 526. It makes the whole phone seem a little less premium, and more what-we-could’ve-done-but-didn’t.
The fourth phone is just a prepaid carrier, downgraded version of the 626, called the 626 S, which only has 8 gigabytes of internal memory, and a front facing lens with just 2MPs.
All things aside, with all four having prices under 200$, it’s probable that we will see them in many hands on the subway, soon.
