For those waiting for the sequel, ‘Titanfall’ will land on your smartphones in the meantime, offering you plenty of mecha action in between.
- ‘Titanfall’ sold 10 million copies worldwide, since 2014
- Respawn Entertainment, with Nexon and Particle City, are developing the mobile game
- It’s expected to be a 3rd person game, to be released in 2016
- ‘Titanfall 2’ could be released between 2016-2017
It wouldn’t be the first time a spin-off of a bigger game could find success on the mobile platform. ‘Fallout’ is doing rather well for itself, and that could be considered something with a similar edge. According to Respawn Entertainment CEO, Vince Zampella, their hit game ‘Titanfall’ will be following in suit and getting its own mini-game.
‘Titanfall’ is a first person shooter (FPS), filled with thrilling action and with players controlling mecha-Titans fighting each other. Or, at least, they control their pilots. It has proven itself to be an exceptionally fun game, with various entertainment values. The first installment (for now) of the series has sold 10 million units worldwide since its release in 2014.
However, the ride isn’t over. Through their partnership with Nexon, a mobile publishing company, and Particle City, a development studio and Respawn’s sister company, they’re designing a new ‘Titanfall’ to arrive on mobiles. The details have been spared, but Nexon CEO, Owen Mahoney, has stated that they intend to build on the game’s success.
There will be a few natural differences though. For one, the game won’t be a FPS, as should likely be expected for those on a mobile platform. Instead, it will tackle a different kind of gameplay, and take it in “a new direction”. It could perhaps pose as good news, and a refreshing way to view ‘Titanfall’.
Regardless, Zampella claimed that they will “deliver a high-quality experience”, unhindered by the hardware limitations of a smartphone. Changes are expected, and it certainly won’t have the exciting gameplay that drove the game to success. However, with a well thought-out plan, it could turn into a potentially entertaining experience to compliment the main series.
Considering their partnership with Nexon, it’s expected for the mobile game to be free to play. So far, no more details have been forthcoming from either. It’s expected to be launched at some point in 2016.
Furthermore, the sequel, ‘Titanfall 2’ has not been forgotten either. Fans of the franchise should know that it’s in the works, and that it will be “worth the wait”. Rumors suggest that the second installment will include a campaign mode for single player, one thing that the first game sorely lacked. The focus was more pointed at online multiplayer.
More information will be released in the future, and speculations have it that ‘Titanfall 2’ might come out in 2016 as well, with 2017 at the latest.
