For a long time now there have been numerous discussions about what is called Planet X but the question regarding this planet to be or not to be Super Earth is still puzzling scientists.
- Planet X should be an Earth-like planet
- ALMA telescopes were used to observe two new cosmic objects scientists believe to be Planet X
- The studies are being highly criticized as they leave too many unanswered questions
Despite all of the amazing things the Universe is presenting us with, humans’ constant dream is to find something they can relate to, something that’s similar to what they already know – an Earth-like planet.
The hope is to find such a planet and see whether or not it has what we need to inhabit it. Or, who knows, maybe other forms of life exist on other planets which he didn’t discover yet. The possibilities are infinite. Not only because we don’t exactly know what’s out there, but also because to explore the entire Universe is something that could easily be compared to Sisyphus rolling his boulder uphill.
Scientists have recently started another debate on the matter of the existence of Planet X. They published two papers which show the discoveries of two cosmic objects which they believe could be the long-searched planet.
One of the papers talks about an object they found in our solar system using the ALMA telescopes in Chile. To put it simple the object is a big rock, approximately the size of Ireland and its location is somewhere close to the planet Uranus.
The object received the name of Gna, the Nordic equivalent of the messenger god Hermes. However, they admit that they’re calculations might have some errors and that Gna could be a planet or a brown dwarf, which is a cosmic object with both star-like and planet-like characteristics.
In the other paper, scientists talk about the most distant object from our solar system. They believe it is located beyond Pluto, somewhere near Alpha Centauri. Again, they’re hoping the object is a planet, but it could as well be a brown dwarf.
Many of their fellow scientists are criticizing the studies as they believe ALMA is not good enough for this type of discoveries which leave the research with many gaps and unanswered questions.
All in all, the scientists who published the said studies hope to receive help and support from their fellow research in their endeavor to find Planet X.
