The Pilot of the ill fated Virgin Galactic Rocket which crashed in California last month said that he was unaware if his co-pilot had prematurely triggered a system that may have caused the accident.
The crash investigation is focusing on a unique “feathering” system on-board Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShip 2 which intended to slow down the craft as it re enters the Earth’s atmosphere. It works much like the flaps on an airplane where the twin tails rotate at an extreme angle to create maximum wind resistance.
The NTSB which is investigating the crash has outlined the facts of the crash without drawing any conclusions as to what caused the crash. A more detailed report is expected to reveal more. However it will be a few months before we know the cause of this accident.
Virgin Galactic Rocket Pilot, Peter Siebold, 43, ejected from the rocket at an altitude of about 50,000 feet and parachuted to safety while co-pilot, Michael Alsbury, 39, died in the Oct. 31 crash over the Mojave Desert.
