Zimmerman Lost His Twitter Account over Revenge Porn Posts

After becoming infamous in 2012 for killing young Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman lost his Twitter account over revenge porn posts about his girlfriend.

Zimmerman has posted on Twitter nude pictures and some contact information of a former girlfriend called Heather. In his tweets he claimed that she has stolen from him and cheated on him by having intimate relations with “a dirty Muslim”. He also denigrated the woman by saying she will sleep with anyone and adding her phone number.

On October 1, the anti-cyberharassment law went into effect. In the Orlando area, where Zimmerman’s hometown is located, there are laws against revenge porn. The same goes for other 25 of the American states.

However, despite the fact that Zimmerman’s posts repulsed many people and the person’s photos and personal information were published without the person’s consent, the act might not represent a violation of the law against revenge porn. The reason is that the pictures are not explicit enough, meaning they don’t show the amount of nudity that would pass them as violations of the above law.

Although he may not be charged for violating this particular law, the victim could obtain an order of protection and he could still be arrested for sharing her personal info without consent. This is also the reason why Twitter disabled Zimmerman’s account. Although the company doesn’t usually get involved in users’ accounts and tweets, they do have a policy that prohibits sharing another person’s email or phone number or intimate photos without that person’s consent.

This isn’t Zimmerman’s first sign of ‘misbehavior’ on Twitter. In the past few months he exposed his homophobic beliefs, he called President Obama a ‘racist’ and he also retweeted a photo of his victim’s corpse.

All of his acts clearly point towards the fact that he has something against black or Muslim people and that he could be dangerous. Setting aside what happened in 2012, inciting third other people to harm his former girlfriend, either physically or more likely morally, regardless of what she’s done or not done, suggests and abusive behavior that could affect people around him.
