Equfax Customers That Fell Victim to the Data Breach that the Company Hid from Them Have Several Options to Seek Legal Compensations
The Equifax scandal has reached monstrous proportions as a staggering proportion of 40% of American citizens suffered damages due to this company alone. Those who fell victim to Equifax’s security breach can take part in the class action lawsuit that was filed with the court against this company.
However, affected customers can go after the company from different points as well. They can hire lawyers to file for different lawsuits or resort to an online chatbot called DoNotPay. With only one click, Equifax customers can ask for the maximum indemnifications that their states allow. For instance, Rhode Island can demand no more than $2,500 in damages while the range goes up to $25,000 in Tennessee.
Experts Don’t Believe DoNotPay Offers Comprehensive Professional Assistance
The creator of the bot, Joshua Browder, first launched the software in July as a digital assistance for parking tickets. However, the moment he learned he was one of the 143 million victims of the Equifax data breach, he tweaked his chatbot to address a different goal.
The program was instructed to fill in online forms which replace most of the lawyers’ work in such legal cases. In the end, Browder hopes to bring the company to bankruptcy.
On the other hand, plaintiffs still have to appear before a court and present their case according to rules which are different from state to state. Even though a small claims case seems an easy job, experts in the field disagree with the idea that a bot can offer comprehensive professional assistance.
