Here’s one for your nightmares. A woman discovers a spider in her ear after hearing “scratching noises”, and essentially reminds us that one of our terrifying fears is indeed possible.
- The 25 year old woman likely got the intruder on a hiking trip
- She reported “scratching noises” and believed she was cursed
- She resorted to medication and praying before she consulted a doctor
- The spider was creating a web in her ear, and reacted violently when doctors attempted to remove it
This has the possibility of bad dreams all over it, and it’s unfortunate that it’s only adding to an odd number of insects found in people’s ears. For example, there is the man in China who found himself with a number of 20 cockroaches lodged into his ear canal.
Reportedly, 25 year old Li Meng from Xiamen, China, had been out on a hiking trip with her boyfriend before she returned home, and found herself oddly afflicted.
She reported hearing “scratching noises” in her head, and complained about acute pain in her left ear. These disturbing sounds seemed to be much worse at night, when the sharp ache only increased and the noise was louder. The first thought that crossed her mind was that she was cursed. The woman believed evil spirits were haunting her and her home.
Consulting a specialist was certainly not high on the list of solutions. Meng took a lot of painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication, but the pain barely subsided. She then even went to a temple to pray away the evil spirits, before she considered seeking the counsel of a doctor.
Dr. Chen Zahoyue, ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist informed her that she had a spider in her ear and was currently in the process of creating its web. That led to the scratching and the pain she could feel in her ear. There were no evil spirits, only a tiny arachnid making a cozy home for itself in hear ear canal. Meng was naturally petrified of the revelation and has stated that she did not feel the spider crawling in there.
It likely occurred at some point during her hiking experience when she was climbing a tree for fruit picking. Unfortunately, she returned home with more than just fruit, in the form of an eight-legged arachnid that crawled its way into her ear.
The specialists had a difficult time removing spider. Apparently, with each attempt to extract it with tweezers, the arachnid started to “react violently” causing more torment and pain to the patient. It was quite a terrifying thought that it would start attacking Meng’s eardrum, so the doctors resorted to other solutions.
They carefully poured ear drops into her ear to subdue the spider before extracting the eight-legged tiny nightmare under surgery.
It’s safe to say that Meng’s future hiking excursions might have to wait a little while.
