According to a new research based on the most searched terms on the internet in 2015, it turns out that ladies, the man bun is here to stay, unfortunately.
- The trend was started off in Hollywood
- The man bun is a statement of men’s continuous feminization process
The most popular terms as far as hair care and hair products go, on the internet this year have been braids, colored hair and men’s hair. 2015 was the biggest year ever for internet searches on men’s hairstyles.
And of course it was. 2015 was the year of the bun-zilla. That awful, awful men’s hairstyle, where they pull back all their hair and tie it into a greasy knot or bun at the back of their head, gives us cold shivers just upon seeing it.
Of course, the hairstyle was introduced to the world via Hollywood, through the likes of Jared Leto and Chris Hemsworth. Yes, but not everyone has Jared Leto’s beautiful face and, let’s face it, Chris Hemsworth is Thor! He could be sporting a garbage bag and he would still look like perfection itself. But the truth is not all men look like that and the man bun doesn’t go with everybody’s features. However, somehow, all the men seem to have overlooked that fact and adopted it this year, to our horror.
Researchers say that 2015 is also the year when, for the first time ever, the internet search for men’s hairstyles has superseded that of women’s hairstyles, which might show how men are getting more and more interested in how they look. They also say that they don’t all do it, of course. But, just the fact that they spend a few hours looking at pictures of other men who have had the courage to take such a step, says a lot.
However this might be, what we can say for sure is that women don’t like it. Most of them voice complaints about the fact that the man bun looks way too feminine for their taste or that it looks weird on their heads or simply silly. Some women argue that men sporting the bun, look an out of work samurai. Probably overweight, we might add.
Therefore, the trend seems to be a bit worrying, both for women and for men. It is definitely a sign of the continuous feminization process men are currently going through. Masculinity doesn’t seem to be priced any more. More and more men are wearing bold colors, sporting the man bun, dying their hair, plucking their eyebrows, having mani-pedis and shaving their legs.
The opposing trend is the lumbersexuals. So, ladies, take your pick!
